Precision Performance Kwik-Shift Automatic Transmission Shifter
Use this Kit Builder to select the necessary components to complete the installation of the Kwik-Shift I and II shifter for GM TH700R4, TH200-4R, 4L80, and 4L60 4-speed automatic transmission applications. This tool allows the user to select only those components necessary for the application. Use the attached diagrams and notes below to determine the proper components. If you have ANY questions, don’t hesitate to contact us!
GENERAL NOTES:
- A STANDARD pattern valve body has 3rd gear next to neutral. A REVERSE pattern valve body has 1st gear next to neutral. Either could be push or pull to up-shift, depending on the rest of the shifter configuration. Cable exit for example. (See specific shifter notes below)
- If air-shifting is desired, please consider the Kwik-Shift I Power-Shift air shifter over the Kwik-Shift II.
- Please review the CABLE EXIT information tab for details on the gear selector layout and up-shift pattern for each shifter.
- The Kwik-Shift I is available in manual-only or air operation.
- The main differences between the Kwik-Shift II and Kwik-Shift I include:
- Kwik-Shift I handle is billet and anodized to match the shifter case
- Kwik-Shift II includes a single neutral safety switch and hang-down wire harness
- Kwik-Shift I include both a neutral safety and trans brake switch and a secure-connect wiring harness and bracket
- For other transmission applications, please return to the Shifter Application GuideÂ

Cable Length
For FRONT exit shifter applications, a 7.0′ (2.13m) or 6.0′ (1.83m) length cable is common.
For REAR exit applications, a 5.0′ (1.52m) or 4.0′ (1.22m) cable length is common.
Front exit applications must make two u-turns between the shifter and transmission (see image below), and rear exit applications make a single u-turn. Making these bends too tight may cause premature failure of the cable lining. Keep the bend radius greater than 10″. Choose the cable length carefully.
The images below provide an overly simplified example of shifter cable routing for both front-exit and rear-exit shifter applications.
Cable Exit
Most Kwik-Shift Shifters can be ordered with either a FRONT or REAR cable exit. However, it is important to understand how this affects other aspects of the shifter design.
Cable exit determines:
- The up-shift pattern of the shifter, whether it is a PUSH to up-shift or a PULL to up-shift
- Whether the PARK location sits toward the front of the vehicle or toward the rear.
- (On Air Shift applications) Where the air solenoid will mount (Kwik-Shift II), or where the CO2 lines will connect (Kwik-Shift I).
- On Electric Shift applications (GM Powerglide), “if” or where the solenoid will mount.
